Dangerous SEO Factors, We Define Four Factors Which Can Have A Negative Effect On Your Rankings.
1. Linking To Bad Neighbourhood
Whilst Google acknowledges that nobody can in truth control who links to them, and therefore does not penalise for inbound links from domains of bad repute, outbound links are the precise opposite. If you are linking to a site that is for example a know linkfarm, or spammy website, then this will reflect badly on your website and you will be penalised as a result. When measuring up potential link partners or accessing a website for an outbound link be very careful. Try to look at the recipients own outbound links, if you find anything suspicious then I would advise thinking twice about linking to this website.
2. Duplicate Content
There is nothing that google values above original and quality content, Im sure most of you have heard the old addage, “content is king”, a popular saying within the SEO Services industry, well that remains true. Google has no interest in ranking two pages with the same content highly, and as such has measure in place to ensure this does not transpire! Check your website regularly with a plagiarism detector like copyscape, if you identify any copies of your intellectual property on the internet, then address the issue right away. Firstly by contacting the webmaster of the offending site and requesting they remove your content, or secondly by filing a digital millenium copyright infringement notice with Google if the webmaster does not remove your content. You could also consider rewording your content to make it unique.
3. Paid Links
Buying links is always a risky business, and myself this is something I do not engage in eother for myself, or paying clients to whom I provide SEO Services, although I know that many other SEO companies do. Buying links is strictly against Googles terms of service and those who buy from known link sellers can expect to be penalised as a result. Not only that but it is a frequent occurance for known link sellers to loose PR on the next toolbar update, therefore not only do you get penalised, but also the PR6 link you paid through the nose for is now a PR3.
4. Content Cloaking
The practice of showing a different page to search engines and viewers is known as cloaking, this is a strictly black hat proceedure which is in violation of Google’s terms of service, as such it carries penalties. There as numerous ways that content can be made invisible to viewers whilst being presented to search engines as part of a page, the first and probably oldest and widely known method is by rendering the text in the same colour as the pages background. Another way of cloaking text is by using css to place the text outside the viewable confines of a page. Google is not ignorant to either of these methods and thus if you use these techniques, and you get caught, your rankings will suffer.
