Google Panda and Latent Semantic Indexing notwithstanding, these two tools have been and will be your most useful way to get and to keep the search engine rankings and therefore the targeted traffic that all website owners are looking for.

And the fact is, you probably already know them:

• WordPress – The WordPress blogging platform and the multitude of plugins that are available to you for free make your SEO tasks not just easy, but automated as well.  From the All-In-One SEO plugin to the automatic pinging feature, if your site is set up on this platform your work is way better than half done.

• Unique Content - If you post your own unique content even just a couple of times a week with even just the most basic of keyword research, then you can rest assured that your site will do progressively better week after week.  Yes, you will still have to deal with the Google Dance driving your site up and down at times but overall posting your own unique articles will carry the day.

As I said above, what works isn't anything you haven't heard before.  And what worked before, still works now.  Oh sure there a constantly new tools and tricks being taught and sold and some even work…

Post your own unique content on a WordPress blog or website and you'll never have to worry as to what your two best SEO tools really are…

I know, I know!  The name of this site more or less guarantees that I will argue in favor of building backlinks.  So maybe you will be surprised when I say that social media marketing is at least as important if not more so than pure backlink building.

I draw a distinction here because really,  when you engage in social media marketing you really are also building backlinks so don't fool yourself that it is a completely different activity.

And then the problem is compounded the more you keywords you try to rank for.  Let's face it, there is software out there to automate just about anything you want to do online, but you could go broke trying to by it all.  So let's see if we can simplify the whole thing and make it more manageable without enriching any of these guys having automation apps built in India.

You should be using Ryan Deiss' Authority Codes to do your Google searches to make sure you are getting the most valuable online properties to post your comments and backlinks on.  These save a lot of time in and of themselves when you set out to find relevant blog posts.  And if you install the Firefox plugin SEO Quake, you can instantly tell the PR of the webpage you will be commenting on.  Even so, this while process becomes a huge time suck if you don't apply one or two more tactics to streamline your efforts.

First off, decide in advance how high of a PageRank you set your floor at.  I know a lot of people won't go below a PR of 5 because they've seen the charts showing a relative value of one PR5 backlink to 555 backlinks on pages with PR of 0.  I'll go down to a PR of 3 in my blog commenting efforts if it is a relevant site.  Why not?!  It takes nothing away from the PR5 and above backlinks I post so it may push me ahead of a site with an equal number of PR5 backlinks that ignored them. 

Remember the following tips:

• Place your keyword in the Name field and you will get credit for it as your anchor text.
• Make a relevant comment with absolutely no backlink in it at all.
• Don't go through and pepper the whole site with similar comments.
• Don't be afraid to use an interior page as your URL in the Website field of the comment form.

Now let's make the search part of this much easier with some free Google automation.  Set up Google Alerts for each of your keywords using the Authority Codes.  I would set the interval of search at daily to begin with, and then adjust as you see the quality of what is returned.  You can also then cull the number of the Authority Code strings you have set up as alerts to just the most productive ones or set the less productive strings to a longer interval between searches so you aren't wasting time on a handful of results.

You have to make the most of your time posting backlinks or you will end up spending days doing what should only take a few hours.  Implementing these kinds of simple automation will eliminate these kinds of time wasters and get you back on Facebook as soon as possible!  Lol

Expression Engine and BlogEngine are both popular among academics and some government agencies for some reason, which is why we like to focus on those in additional to WordPress.
Since WordPress is the most common blogging platform, however, we’re usually able to get our 10 links without going beyond the first 4 “Authority Codes”.

So what’s a site owner to do?!

Mostly ignore the naysayers, and do the common sense things anyway…

The problems being touted as "The End" of various backlink sources is really just about people misunderstanding and misusing them.  When you go into one of Angela’s packets and see the instructions in her PDF, do you notice that each profile has her pic uploaded to her profile?  This should be a clue that she isn’t just signing up, posting her backlinks and running!  Taking the time to fill in your profile a bit and look around will yield huge dividends!  Not only are you less likely to have your account deleted, but you will notice other features of the community.

One of my favorite features on these is the ability to blog.  Communities that allow you to make blog posts are one of the best reasons to keep both Paul and Angela’s packets.  You can and should use them as places to post your EZA articles, posts from your own blog, and unique content created on the fly.  There are no minimum post sizes on any that I have come across, and none of the formatting, linking or top level domain issues you will face elsewhere. 

I know, I know…

"But my articles are on a different niche than the site."

I have posted articles on vastly different topics than that of the community, and without exception the articles and posts stayed.  Communities are starved for contributing members, so if you are posting content then you will likely be very welcome indeed!

You have probably also heard people complaining that Ning communities have disabled backlinking ability in many areas of their profile pages, so there isn’t any point in using them any more.  These people are ignoring two very important things:

1.  Blog Posting – See above, Lol!  Blog away and be sure to post your articles as well.

2.  Start Your Own Community – This is probably the easiest place on the internet to start your own full function community.  Or several full function online communities for that matter.  And you get to pick the topic, so relevance is a non issue…

Squidoo is still being torn apart by naysayers on the forums due to their (still relatively) new rules.  Hey, Google is still in love with them and there remain huge ways to circumvent the problems with the new rules if you just take the time to learn about them.  I’m not going to go into them in depth here when you can get all the info you need from this free report:

I know I get great traffic and rankings from even one of my brand new lenses titled How To Get Backlinks.  I really didn’t need to change much of anything putting this together to accommodate the new rules, and it has performed like a champ…

Regular readers have probably noticed that I have opened up the blog posts here to other authors.  I did this for a number of reasons, but mostly to get some fresh perspectives on backlinking here.  You can get your own articles posted here via the Free Traffic System.  You will be able to publish each of your articles to thirty different websites at no charge whatsoever.  You do need to spin the content with their system, but there are easy to follow video tutorials showing you how to do it almost as easily as using the software they recommend.  I do it myself without any software and can generally spin my article manually in about ten minutes.Try it out, it’s free, and each article can have two backlinks so that means a total of sixty backlinks per article.

None of the info here will do you a bit of good if you don’t get out there and do something.  Make it your goal to implement at least one backlinking strategy every day.  Before you know it, your SEO results will be shooting you onto the first page of the big G for a whole host of great keywords…
